Patrick O’Keeffe in International Success
During half term, Year 9 student, Patrick O’Keeffe competed as part of the National Team in the 2019 World Kickboxing Union World Championships which were held in Bregenze, Austria.
Patrick did amazingly well in the 13 and under category and received bronzes in Karate kumite and light contact. He then managed to get a silver in the points fighting category. He also got praised by several of the referees for his good conduct and professionalism in his bouts. Patrick is part of our Key Stage 3 sports mentor group and has demonstrated total commitment to his sport so this success is richly deserved.
Canterbury Academy Athletes in Cross Country Meeting
Three Canterbury Academy students performed really well for Invicta East Kent Athletics Club in a county cross country event over half term.
Year 10 student, Jamie Keir, continued his excellent running form and won the under 15 run whilst Year 7 student, Molly Martin came 13th in the under 13 race. Year 7 student, Oliver Scott came third in the under 13 boys’ event.
Oliver and Molly train with our 6th Form Athletics Academy on Wednesdays after school whilst Jamie has just begun attending specialist core fitness training with some of our other advanced sport students on Wednesday afternoons in the excellent Lifestyle Fitness facilities.

District Cheerleading Workshop at The Canterbury Academy
Over 70 students from across Canterbury took part in a special cheerleading workshop run by Vista Twisters Cheerleading Club on Tuesday 5th November. Under the watchful eye of Head Coach, Ruth McDade, the girls received excellent coaching and made brilliant progress. The Canterbury Academy hosted the event and had over 20 of its own students attend the workshop.
In other cheerleading news, the Canterbury Waitrose store has agreed to support the cheerleading project at The Canterbury Academy by enabling us to be part of their green token initiative for shoppers in the store. At the end of the month, £1000 will be divided between three local projects depending on how many green tokens each one receives. Please do all you can to support this project.
South East Gold for Josie Cooper
Year 8 student, Josie competed in a regional gymnastics event recently and came away with the gold medal in the floor event. She also came second on the beam which is a fantastic achievement and reward for her dedication this year.
European Touch Rugby Success for Erin Payten
Year 13 student, Erin Payten, represented The England u23 Touch Rugby team in The European Challenge Trophy recently. The team won all of their matches scoring over sixty tries in the process. Erin is part of our 6th Form Athletics Academy and has daily fitness work to support her touch rugby development.
