Cup Final Success for Canterbury Academy Students

Two of our year 12 students were involved in a sensational achievement for Tankerton FC last week. Georgia Newhouse and Gallia Yates played in the county cup final against Maidstone FC. In a closely fought match, Tankerton played brilliantly to overcome a strong Maidstone side and win 2-1. The county cup is extremely difficult to win with sides from North Kent and South East London usually dominating the competition. The team’s coach, Dean Gonsalves, has been very impressed by both of the girls and commented.

“I just wanted to say again what a credit Gallia and Georgia have been to the school and how amazing their commitment and dedication to Tankerton has been.”

This is fantastic feedback for us and the girls who have demonstrated real determination with their football in the past year. A full report can be found here https://www.kentonline.co.uk/whitstable/sport/cup-final-glory-for-tankerton-girls-248606/

Jacob seals incredible last over win in quarter final thriller

Our cricket teams had three county cup quarter finals this week. Despite close defeats to The Langton in the under 18 cup and Sevenoaks school in the under 14 competition, the highlight of the week was a nail biting last over victory for the under 15 side against a strong Judd School team. Having fielded brilliantly, the team edged towards their target but almost left it too late. With eight runs needed off four balls, the game had gone down to the wire.

Up stepped Adam Jacob with a towering shot over long on and into the Judd team kit bags. It was down to two off three balls after this breath-taking six and Jacob then smashed the next ball over midwicket to finish the game in style. The team will now play Tonbridge School on Tuesday 15th  June at Tonbridge giving them the chance to play at the best school cricket ground in the county.
