Dear Parents/Carers,

I hope this letter finds you and your family well.

As we approach the crucial stage of selecting GCSE options for your child, I wanted to reach out and provide you with some guidance and information to assist in this important decision-making process.

Choosing the right GCSE subjects is a significant step in your child’s educational journey, laying the foundation for their future academic and career paths. At this stage, it’s essential to consider your child’s interests, strengths, and aspirations, while also ensuring they maintain a balanced and well-rounded curriculum.

We offer a diverse range of GCSE subjects, each designed to challenge and inspire students to reach their full potential. Our dedicated teaching staff are committed to providing high-quality instruction and support to help your child excel in their chosen subjects.

In making these decisions, I encourage you and your child to consider the following factors:

Interests and Passions: Encourage your child to select subjects they are genuinely interested in and passionate about. Engaging with subjects they enjoy will not only enhance their learning experience but also foster a sense of motivation and enthusiasm.

Future Goals: Consider your child’s future aspirations and career goals. Certain subjects may be more aligned with their chosen career path or provide valuable skills and knowledge relevant to their desired field of study.

Academic Strengths: Take into account your child’s academic strengths and weaknesses. While it’s important to challenge them, it’s also essential to select subjects where they feel confident and capable of achieving success.

Balanced Curriculum: Encourage a balanced selection of subjects that encompass a variety of disciplines, including core subjects such as English, Mathematics, and Science, as well as options in the humanities, arts, and vocational areas.

Long-Term Impact: Recognise that the choices made now can have a significant impact on your child’s future educational and career opportunities. Encourage thoughtful consideration and careful planning to ensure they make informed decisions that align with their long-term goals.

This booklet will help you and your son/daughter to make their choices by explaining:

  • The qualifications that form the core part of Key Stage 4 (Years 10 and 11)
  • The options that are available.

Together, we will plan your son/daughter’s programme for the next two years, which builds on their current attainment and ensures they take the most suitable range of courses, to enable them to reach their academic potential.

Please take the time to read through the guidance and encourage your son/daughter to discuss their choices with their mentor, subject teachers and older students studying the course.

Please ensure final decisions are recorded online, using the link on page 6 in the booklet by Monday, 3rd June 2024.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to myself or any members of our staff outlined in the booklet, if you require further assistance or clarification. Together, we can ensure that your child’s GCSE options reflect their unique talents, interests, and aspirations, setting them on a path towards success and fulfilment.

Many thanks for your continued support.
Yours,

Mr J. Brooke                     Mrs S. Morgan
