BTEC Level 2 Certificate in Construction

What’s it about?

At the Canterbury Academy, students can join the construction course which has been designed to help learners understand aspects of construction and the skills required to work successfully in the industry. Students will have the opportunity to visit trade sites and will be made aware of the range of employment opportunities that could be available to them.  Learners will also have the opportunity to develop their functional skills. 

Entry Requirements:

There are flexible entry requirements for this course.  We will also support students to re-take their GCSE mathematics and or English if required.

    Course Content:

    Learners will complete eight units with two external assessments along with six internally assessed units. The topics will involve construction technology where the learners will understand the structural requirements for low-rise buildings, exploring brickwork and blockwork where learners will be introduced to the skills required for bricklaying. Other topics include sustainability that will look into how construction methods have changed to maintain sustainability. Learners will put together design ideas using floor plans, elevations and perspective drawings.

    Academic

    The qualification will allow learners to progress to further construction qualifications such as:

    • Extended Certificate in Construction and The Built Environment
    • Diploma in Construction and The Built Environment 
    Vocation

      This course will provide students with the support and knowledge for them to gain employment within the construction industry through apprentice schemes. Learners can look into which areas of construction they would like to continue in whether this would be practical based or more desk based construction.
